Daily Chain Pull: The Nice Guy & The Liar

Many politicians make it pretty hard to catch them lying, as they avoid the error of being EMPHATIC.

But Obama, in his quest to cultivate and maintain a “nice guy” image, makes that error pretty regularly, so his lies are pretty easy to find and point out.

I was listening to the radio this morning, and one of the disembodied voices made a good point. He started listing the lies that Obama had told and then humorously marveled at the lack of reaction from the media. So, keeping in mind the DJ’s brief list, I looked them up this morning.

To wit:

1. Military Pensions

What Nice Guy Obama Said:

“So long as I’m Commander-in-Chief, we will sustain the strongest military the world has ever known. When you take off the uniform, we will serve you as well as you’ve served us – because no one who fights for this country should have to fight for a job, or a roof over their head, or the care that they need when they come home.”

What Conservative Media Predicted (in 2011):

“Just weeks after the Pentagon proposed scrapping the military’s traditional pension program, Obama released a plan Monday that calls for reexamining the retirement system that “provides generous benefits to the relatively few members who stay at least 20 years and no benefits for the roughly 80 percent of servicemembers who stay less than 20 years.”

What Just Happened:

“The federal budget, which easily passed the House on Thursday and is now pending in the Senate, would cut pension cost of living raises by 1 percent for military retirees who aren’t disabled and not yet 62-years-old

“Lankford said the budget deal will protect our national defense from across-the-board cuts.

“All these decisions are incredibly difficult for us because we know these are the folks that actually protected our freedom,” Lankford said.  “This put us in a very, very bad situation where we’re actually dealing with major cuts in active military right now or a slight reduction in retired [cost of living raises] for military.”

Lankford said the cuts stem from the 2011 Budget Control Act, which aimed at long-term fiscal reform.”

2. Obamacare

What Obama The Nice Guy Said:

“If you like the plan you have, you can keep it.  If you like the doctor you have, you can keep your doctor, too.  The only change you’ll see are falling costs as our reforms take hold.”

What Conservative Media Predicted (In 2012):

“Also, the CBO expects an additional 4 million Americans to lose their employer-provided coverage, as managers choose to pay fines rather than premiums on costlier, Obama-approved health plans. As the Ways and Means Committee found, “This will force hardworking Americans to purchase government-mandated insurance in government-run exchanges or pay a penalty.”

As the Washington Examiner’s Philip Klein observed Tuesday, the Unaffordable Care Act will drive at least 39 million people into the loving arms of the state.”

What Just Happened:

“Tina Wray is a single mother with two children. She is going to college, works 25 hours per week as a server, and has a medical policy through her work that costs $60 a week for her and her oldest daughter. Insurance pays 80 percent and she pays 20 percent. That policy has a maximum benefit of $10,000 annually.

“She said she used this coverage in 2013 after she had her second child. But now her employer has told her that she will lose her coverage next year because Obamacare has restrictions about annual benefit maximums.”

3. On ‘Fast and Furious’

What Nice Guy Obama Said:

“People who have screwed up will be held accountable,”

What Conservative Media Reported:

a) “The administration has refused to comply with Judicial Watch’s FOIA request, and in mid-September the group filed a lawsuit challenging Holder’s denial. That lawsuit remains ongoing but within the past week President Barack Obama’s administration filed what’s called a “motion to stay” the suit. Such a motion is something that if granted would delay the lawsuit indefinitely.”

b) “On June 29, 2011 a reporter asked President Obama about the matter at a White House news conference. Obama said in part: “I’m not going to comment on the current investigation…. As soon as the investigation is complete, appropriate action will be taken.”

What Liberal Media Said Happened:

“Heads are beginning to roll nearly two years after the Fast and Furious gunwalker scandal first came to light. William McMahon, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) official who was in charge of field operations during the controversial operation, has been fired, according to his attorney Mark Zaid who told CBS News “we will be appealing the decision.”

What Really Happened:

Eric Holder and Obama stonewalled and are getting away with it. So far.

4. On Benghazi

Nice Guy Obama (On Letterman!):

“Here’s what happened. … You had a video that was released by somebody who lives here, sort of a shadowy character who — who made an extremely offensive video directed at — at Mohammed and Islam –Making fun of the Prophet Mohammed. And so, this caused great offense in much of the Muslim world. But what also happened, extremists and terrorists used this as an excuse to attack a variety of our embassies, including the one, the consulate in Libya.”

What Conservative Media Reported:

“We now know that none of this was true: The attack was premeditated, it was preplanned, it had nothing to do with any YouTube Video, and there wasn’t even a protest in Benghazi in the first place. And we know that they knew none of it was true when they sent Rice out to say it.”

What Just Happened:

Obama spent another day as President.
